Freehand tattoo: why it isn't stencilled
Freehand means drawing the tattoo straight onto your skin, by hand, instead of tracing a paper stencil. It sounds risky and it's exactly the opposite: it's how the piece truly fits your body.

How it works
In a traditional tattoo the design is printed on transfer paper (a stencil) and applied to the skin. It works, but paper is flat and your body isn't: a design that looks perfect on screen can end up twisted or misplaced over a shoulder, a calf or the ribs.
With freehand, the design is born on you. Using markers, the composition is drawn directly on the skin, following the muscle, the curves and the empty areas. Only once the shape moves with the body does the tattoo begin.
Skin isn't a sheet of paper. A good freehand doesn't fight your anatomy: it uses it.
Why I work this way
I work a lot in blackwork and large pieces, and that's where freehand makes the difference. A sleeve or a back that flow with the muscle look alive; a stencil stuck on top doesn't. Freehand lets the composition breathe, lets the black fall where it should, and makes each piece — literally — impossible to repeat on anyone else.
"And if I don't like it?" — everyone's question
It's the logical fear, and the answer is simple: the marker wipes off, the ink doesn't. The drawing on your skin is reviewed with you, calmly. You look at it in the mirror, we talk it through, and whatever needs adjusting or redrawing gets done. The needle doesn't start until the design fully convinces you. No rush and no commitment until that moment.
What I need from you for a freehand
- References and ideas, not a locked design: the more room, the better it fits.
- Trust in the process — the final design is decided together, on your skin.
- A little time on the day of the session for the drawing stage before we start.
Quick questions
Can I see a preview before the appointment day?
With freehand, the real design is made on the day, on your skin. Beforehand we work references and direction at the consultation, so we arrive aligned.
Does freehand cost more?
It depends on the piece, like any project. We settle it at the consultation — here's what the price depends on.
Is it good for covering an old tattoo?
It's often the best option, because the design adapts to what's already there. Assessed in person.
We design on you
Bring me the idea and we turn it into a piece that can only exist on your body.
